Advice from Kudos Vehicle Management
With dark gloomy winter nights only around the corner, don’t wait until it freezes before you start to think about your wheels! It’s important to look after your car all year round, regardless of whether you own it or lease it. However, different times of the year require different approaches to protecting your car – you need to take into account the changing weather and driving conditions brought about by the changing seasons.
If you’re not sure what precautions you should be taking for your car right now don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here are Kudos Vehicle Management’s top tips for protecting your car over winter:
Be aware of changing visibility
Over winter, when the days get shorter, your visibility will naturally be affected with there being less light. Also, when there is light, it will be from the low winter sun, which can cause glare. As your visibility decreases, try to take your time and be extra aware of your surroundings.
Make sure your lights are working
This is important all year round, but especially so during winter when there is less natural light and visibility is lower than usual. Regularly check all of your car’s lights and make sure they are all working – if any are faulty, get them fixed straight away.
Don’t use boiling water to de-ice your windscreen
As temperatures drop over winter, you may often find that your windscreen has frozen over. Obviously it is dangerous to drive with your windscreen in this condition, as it would greatly reduce your visibility. However, it’s important that you are careful with how you de-ice your windscreen. While your first instinct may be to use a kettle full of boiling water, this can actually crack your windscreen. Instead of this, keep a can of de-icer handy that you can use when necessary.
Pump up your tires
Rain, snow and ice can all make for treacherous driving conditions, so you want to make sure that your tires are always fully pumped up. This will greatly improve your handling, making you much safer on the road, as well as improving your fuel consumption.
